Un-compassionate people February 15, 2008 “Low Life workers” It behooves me that people who want to stop illegal aliens from crossing our borders to take the minimum wage jobs have so much distaste for those American’s who actually work for the minimum wage. No wonder people would rather go without working than work for the minimum wage. They are called “LOW LIFES” by those that have. I was confronted with this very thing on Feb. 14th. From experience, I can tell you that people who work the minimum wage do not want to be in that position. Sometimes it just happens. Other times the person doesn’t have the mentality to do anything else. What people don’t understand is that at one time some minimum wage jobs were well paying jobs. As electronics improved and mechanical instruments and robotics came into being, the good paying jobs started paying less because of the “aid” the person was getting from the robotic means. Yes, I became outraged over this person calling minimum wage earners “low life’s”. If it was not for the “low “life’s” doing the jobs, no one would do them. People don’t choose to be in this position, they are thrown into it by some mean, either growing up in a situation that is hard to get out of or being thrown into it by way of the lack of support by a spouse who was actually a “low lifer” who didn’t want to work and support their family. There are many reasons a person has to work for the minimum wage; these are only a couple of examples. The next issue is being able to better ones self when they are working for the minimum wage. Not everyone can go back to school to better themselves. As I said, some don’t have the mentality (I am not making fun of the mentally challenged here) to have jobs other than something that pays minimum wage. Others have children who they have to be at home at night, or there is the possibility the state will step in and says they are neglecting their children. These people who call minimum wage earners “LOW LIFE” don’t have compassion and really don’t know what compassion really is. They have not researched what they are complaining about. They complain when the person receives money from the government for food or help with shelter yet they don’t want to raise the minimum wage so these people would not need government help. It isn’t as if the government is paying for a TV or a car for these people. Yes, there are people who abuse the system, but then there are big corporations who abuse the system on a bigger scale. There are people who work for the government who abuse the system on a bigger scale. Heck, even our politicians abuse the system on a bigger scale. I have little use for people who have no compassion for the working poor. As I said, the working poor don’t choose to be in the position they are thrown in through circumstances. Some of them don’t know how to get out of their situation. Others manage to get out of the situation after their children are grown. Some are young people who are working their way through school and then through college. Yes, there are teenagers that work for the minimum wage. I guess my biggest complaint is that calling anyone working for the minimum wage a “LOW LIFER” gets under my skin. Maybe because at one time I had to resort to a minimum wage job just because I had to put a roof over my children’s head, food in their bellies and clothes on their backs. It wasn’t much but it was there. I didn’t have help from their daddy (who really was a low lifer who would not work or help when the few times he did work) or from the government except when my youngest son was a baby and sick. I understand when a person has to work for the minimum wage. I knew and still know people who don’t have the mentality to better themselves but that doesn’t make them “Low lifers”, they are good hard working people who need help, love and understanding. In the 1970’s I was actually able to make it with two boys on the minimum wage. That changed in the 1980’s. This seems to say it all; Nicklas Johnson • morons.org – Republicans Kill Minimum Wage Increase Postscript: to bring the minimum wage back to 1970’s inflation-adjusted levels of around $0.57 in 1938 dollars, it would have to be increased to $8.19. ... Obviously this was originally written on Feb. 15th of 2008 Comments Grace said… (Yesterday, looking at version 2) When I say I was able to make it on the minimum wage in the 1970’s, I don’t mean I could buy such things as TV’s and Cars, I didn’t even so much as have a washer or dryer. I had to go to the laundry mat with our clothes. I was able to put a roof over my boys and my head at only 1/4 of what I made a month. I didn’t have to pay utilities because utilities were included in my rent. I paid for all my grocery’s and even paid for health insurance where I worked. I had enough left over to go to second hand stores to get clothing for my boys. At least the clothing was decent and looked new.
